When enrichment runs
Which data is enriched every day, which needs a backfill, and why a new upload or a new prompt doesn't show Dimensions straight away.
There are two ways a conversation gets Dimensions: the daily run, which covers live integrations, and a backfill, which you start from the Backfill tab.
| Situation | When Dimensions appear |
|---|---|
New conversations from a live integration (a one-click integration, or a universal API job sending to /track), for a prompt applied to that source | Automatically, every day |
| A file upload | Only after you run a backfill. It typically shows up within the hour, depending on how much data is being enriched. |
Anything sent to /trackhistorical | Only after you run a backfill |
| A new prompt, on conversations you already have | Only after you run a backfill over their dates |
| A new prompt, on a live integration from now on | Every day, once the prompt is saved and applied to that source |
| A prompt with a filter set in Prompt Designer, on a live integration | Not in the daily enrichment. Only after you run a backfill. |
| An edited prompt, on conversations already enriched with the old version | Only after you run a backfill over their dates |
| Standard Dimensions, in a workspace without daily enrichment turned on | Only after you run a backfill |
| A business data file (Structured data) | Never: business data isn’t enriched. It’s queryable within about a minute of upload. |
Standard Dimensions
Section titled “Standard Dimensions”Every workspace has the standard Dimensions (called System Prompts in the platform) available. They run every day only when Dimension Labs turns on daily enrichment for your workspace. Until then, run a backfill to apply them, or email [email protected] to ask for daily enrichment.
A new workspace with no custom prompt and daily enrichment off gets no Dimensions automatically. Run a backfill first.
No Dimensions yet? Check these first
Section titled “No Dimensions yet? Check these first”| Cause | How to tell | Fix |
|---|---|---|
The data came in as a file upload or through /trackhistorical | It’s an upload or a history job, not a live integration | Run a backfill over its dates |
| No prompt is applied to the source, and daily enrichment of the standard Dimensions is off | Ask the agent: “Which prompts have run on this source, and over which dates?” | Backfill the standard Dimensions or your own prompt, or ask support to turn on daily enrichment |
| The prompt is applied to a different source | Check the sources you chose when you saved or backfilled the prompt | Apply the prompt to this source and backfill it |
| The prompt has a filter set in Prompt Designer | Open the prompt’s settings in Prompt Designer | Filtered prompts don’t run in the daily enrichment: backfill the dates you need |
| The file went in as business data | It’s under Data Sources > Structured data | Upload the conversations under Unstructured data, then backfill |
What the agent does in the meantime
Section titled “What the agent does in the meantime”The agent can still work with raw text and your uploaded columns before Dimensions exist. When the Dimensions it would normally use are empty, it tells you, and offers a lighter reading of the text as a stopgap. Its answer says which it used.
Check coverage
Section titled “Check coverage”Ask the agent:
- “What date range do my Dimensions cover, and what date range does the raw data cover?”
- “How many conversations from last month have no Dimensions?”
If the answers differ, run a backfill over the gap. If a backfill has finished on the Backfill tab and the gap is still there, email [email protected] with the source, the prompt and the date range.
